Corporate Responsibility

Corporate Responsibility - important also in tough times

The past year has been challenging for Studsvik. This was partly due to the economic downturn, which was most noticeable in the USA and the UK and partly due to problems in assessing the complexity of major decommissioning projects in the UK. Even though we have had to focus our attention on meeting these short-term challenges during 2009, we have also continued to demonstrate our commitment to Corporate Responsibility and, ultimately, to sustainable development.

Reporting remains an important means of communicating our Corporate Responsibility work to our stakeholders and we have continued to report in accordance with level B of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Last year we presented a three-year Corporate Responsibility program that would enable us to work strategically within four areas:

  • Employees and Organization
  • Society
  • Customers
  • Suppliers and Environment

The program is based on the findings of the stakeholder dialog we conducted in 2008.

In this report, we present our achievements in 2009 and an updated program, now covering the period of 2010–2012. A good example of an action taken in 2009 was the continued implementation of our Code of Conduct, which we introduced in 2008, by setting up an Ethics Hotline for employees in the Studsvik Group which can be accessed via the Intranet. Employees now have a channel through which they can report suspected misconduct and unacceptable behaviour.

Another achievement in the past year was the inclusion of human rights aspects in our supplier audits. We also continued to improve our environmental, health and safety work within the Group.

Studsvik operates on markets with growth potential. We will continue  to generate value by integrating economic, environmental and social aspects into our operations.
